When I a young child, abou...This makes me so sad. <br /><br />When I a young child, about I think around 10 or 11 years old (around 1994-95)in Port St John Florida. I saw a woodpecker with NO red feathers. To me it looked blueish and white and it was huge. And I watched it peck the tree with his beak a few times. The images of it always stuck with me. It's eyes reminded me of a cartoon. I tried to look it up as a child and was confused as to why I never seem to find information on this woodpecker. The only thing that looked closest to it was a pilated...but the one I saw did not have any red feathers on it....<br /><br />It wasn't until much later I found out that it was a female Ivory billed woodpecker.
