As I was driving rather fast trying to get to the creek just to check it out. over my left hand shoulder going through one of the lanes that had been freshly cut I seen a fairly big cat , black. It kind of made me think it was a house cat at first . but it was a hundred yards away. It had a pretty good long tail! I've have never seen one and it didn't look that big to me but it was a ways off. You know I thought about it, flew on to the creek got on my flashlight. Got me a pretty good bit of Pine knot in the back of the truck. Run down to the creek see if I can pick up some petrified wood. It was a lot of Tree Tops and trees leaning from Big Pines hitting them. You know as soon as I past skinny Leaning Pine it sound like a giant squirrel was ripping the bark off of it. I stopped turn around nothing didn't hear nothing didn't see nothing it was still bark falling from up high I don't know really what it was. but it scared the crap out of me ! and I went back to the truck rather fast. You know I stay in those woods more than I should my wife says. never seen sign of that cat. I've got a coyote follows me whenever I go Arrowhead hunting, most every time I go. Don't always see him either but I know he's there.Clint Hilzendagerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07251866015076726375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3810009914256696264.post-33960439064389292602018-10-17T19:49:15.500-05:002018-10-17T19:49:15.500-05:00we have recently moved to the southern part of New...we have recently moved to the southern part of Newton County. Though I have not seen any myself, some neighbors have told us stories about all the big cats that live in the woods. Panthers, Lynx, Bob Cats, Mountain Lions, etc. We don't have any livestock to attract any of these animals, most we have been dealing with are snakes. But, other neighbors do have livestock, so chances are good that we may spot one eventually. In the late 1970's we lived on our farm in Shelby County near Tenaha and Flat Fork Creek. We had what was referred to as a black panther. It had a routine of coming through our property about every 6 weeks. We heard it screaming when it was in our area. I am again living on property in Shelby County near Tenaha. Hilliard Creek runs through my property leading to Flat Fork Creek. Two years ago I saw a large black cat with a long tail on Easter morning twice. I have seen a bobcat with babies in my area before. This was definitely larger. I have a neighbor that reports seeing a large black cat (panther) and a tawny mountain lion on his properly on the same day. So any.idea what it is that we call a black panther.Martha Brennion-Neasehttp://facebook.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3810009914256696264.post-5900680427036422002016-04-09T16:57:53.732-05:002016-04-09T16:57:53.732-05:00We live in East Texas near Lake Fork and we have s...We live in East Texas near Lake Fork and we have seen a black jaguar sized cat twice with long tale and a large brown cougar with big head in our own back yard. I live in Hood Co. Tx, last year I was traveling on Tin Top Road (tx 2580) and had a large cat (40-50 lbs) with a bushy tail race across the road with dinner in its mouth . A rabbit, small cat ? About that size. Cat shaped head & ears. Gray-ish maybe brown-ish but not black. Sure surprised me! It was autumn of 2005, I was driving on CR 532 approx. 2-3 miles from Gonzales toward Moulton, it was after work so approx. 5:15 - 5:30 pm, it crossed in front of me toward some old chicken houses on left. I was totally amazed he leapt from the side of road on right of me to middle of road and another jump he was on the side of the road so graceful and had a very large body it seemed to drop down from belly low toward ground. The size reminded me of adult german sheppard, But it in no way a dog.It was so beautiful the cat also had a bit of black stripy like marks of side of body. I was so graceful.and I told people and of course they did not believe. A year or so later I ran into the game warden that covers gonzales area and told him about the cat. I dont know if it is his demeanor, but he seemed not to believe me. carolehttp://wildblue.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3810009914256696264.post-4534469610687213392015-12-07T08:54:52.774-06:002015-12-07T08:54:52.774-06:00I saw a huge brown cat with big paws and a long th...I saw a huge brown cat with big paws and a long thick tail cross the road in front of me a couple of weeks ago on FM 1509 near Brookston & Roxton Texas. I had to hit the breaks. I stopped to watch it run through the field but I couldn't find it. I backed up & searched again & still couldn't find it. I assumed it was crouched down in the grass somewhere near watching me. Another car approached so I had to move along. It was in the afternoon between 3 and 4. Such an odd time of day to see something like that. I have been searching the web looking at wild cat pictures and I can't find anything that color that is that huge.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07418954588882963756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3810009914256696264.post-63646277529714321422015-11-11T16:16:56.251-06:002015-11-11T16:16:56.251-06:00Mountain lion was hit by a vehicle 10/2015 on hwy ...Mountain lion was hit by a vehicle 10/2015 on hwy 259 south just south of Diana, Texas at the little cypress Creek bottoms, my friend was driving to Longview, Tx to work about 9:00 am and saw it, there were cars pulled over taking photos of the cat when two guys loaded the cat in their truck.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10053985743653730829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3810009914256696264.post-80711263740241243692015-11-04T00:56:38.880-06:002015-11-04T00:56:38.880-06:00I live on the border of League City and Friendswoo...I live on the border of League City and Friendswood, Texas, on Bay Area Blvd. In October of 2013 I was driving southbound between FM 528 and FM 518 around 10pm. Between Prince George Dr and Grissom Rd I saw something I never thought I'd see in this area. It was a large tawny cat with a very long tail that was slightly black at the tip. It was running so fast that it scooted past a truck that was about 3 car lengths ahead of me. I always watch out for wildlife because we have deer, raccoons, possums, turtles...all kinds of animals, crossing the roads and I hate to see them killed. What caught my eye was the speed of this thing. In a flash it went from my left periphery all the way across to the other side of the rather wide road. It was fast, but I've watched cats move my whole life. This was a cat. And its back reached just above the front bumper of the jacked up truck that would have hit it if the truck had been faster than the cat. Other than actually laying my own eyes on it, what convinced me that it had to be a large predatory animal is that prior to this sighting we had had quite a few small/mid-sized dogs and cats disappear. It seemed like every week there was another one missing. This is somewhat unusual for our area as we have strict laws about animals, especially in our neighborhood due to the homeowner's association. It's 2 years later and we still have an unusual number of pets go missing but I haven't seen anything since then. However, i live on the Oregon coast and have been seeing what sounds to be the same type of cat. The cat i have seen is about 100 to 120 pounds, i reference this by comparing to our golden lab at about 80 pounds and the cat was considerably larger. The tail was at least 3 feet long and this thing is all black. I first saw it at about 100 yards in the timber and first thought was it was a bear. Then i got a better look at it and knew it was no bear, i grabbed some binoculars and got it in my view just as it disappeared in the trees and all i could see was mid body back. My wife seen it also but without the binoculars. We have been trying to research what it was and everybody tells us large black cats don't exist in Oregon. Well, my wife's folks are visiting us from Washington and we were telling them what we had seen from our back deck and they were receptive but skeptical, until she saw it at about 75 yards on Friday and now she believes us. Her description was at least 5 feet long with a 3 foot long tail and large head and all black. We have a camera set up just waiting to get a photo. Anybody have any ideas? In a matter of second it was able to cover 150 yds with its undulating rolling fluid movements that still to this day stand out as the most amazing thing I have ever seen in the wild.
